Parkha – A new offbeat destination in East Sikkim

Parkha is a small eco village lies in the eastern part of Sikkim (India)(Sikkim is India’s First Organic State).It is situated at an elevation of 5,000 feet above sea level. It is 150 km from NJP Railway Station and 170km away from Bagdogra Airport at Siliguri (WB). It takes 4 hr drive from Siliguri to reach Parkha. (one and half hour drive from Gangtok). On the way one can visit Saramsa Garden (also called as Epica Garden) highly decorated with natural flowers at Ranipool, and many other small falls as well.

The name of the village PARKHA is Tibetan word (Parkha is a word used in Tibetan astrology,it is eight trigrims of Tibetan astrology )and in olden days the old silk route was also done from here with Tibet.
Parkha village is (approx 60km) below Changu Lake and it is surrounded by green forest, small hills, rivers and streams as well.

What to do at Parkha :

One can experience the nature walk in and around village through forest trails , Parkha view point where entire village is seen from the top, Machong Monastry one of the oldest Monastery in Sikkim,Parkha Gurung Gumpa, Makhim At Rekyap, Barapathing Zheel and also experience the River walk , Buddha falls at rolep and do River bathing, swimming ,Ratey khola cave and many more. For the bird lovers one can experience the Himalayan bird which are found abundantly in the village and little above in the forest as well.

One may visit Machong Monastery, the oldest monastery in Sikkim. May visit Pakhra gurung gumpa, Mankhim, Barapathing zheel, buddha falls, ratey khola cave.

How to reach:

One can hire a direct car from NJP or Bagdogra to reach Parkha, it will cost nearly 3500-4000

If you are planning to visit Parkha by share car then you have to catch share car for ranipool from SNT bus stand, from rani pool take a share taxi to Pakyong, from pakyong one will easily get share jeep to Parkha. If you call your homestay they will arrange a full car from rani pool itself or a share car from rani pool but for that one must have to reach rani pool before 2pm.

From Pakyong airport share car and hired car is easily available. Parkha is only 40min drive from Pakyong airport.

I have been to Parakha village several times and it is really is a beautiful place to be at. The green valleys, thick forests and waterfalls on the way hit different.
